DC 401 - Week 7 - Word Religions

This is our third and final week for a quick look at cults and world religions. We've heard reports on Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, the Word of Faith movement, the Seventh Day Adventist church, Christian Science, and Scientology, and we've read up on others. This week, we'll hear reports on Islam, Rastafarianism, and the Unification Church. In the meantime, here's how the week's workload might break down:

Monday - Read and comment on 1 Kings 17-22, 2 Kings 1-8, and Psalms 69-71
Tuesday - Read the "World Religion Profile" by Connie Willems
Wednesday - Memorize 1 Timothy 4:16 - Watch your life and doctrine closely; persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers - and review previous memory verses, such as 1 John 4:1-2, Hebrews 4:12, and Colossians 4:5-6
Thursday - Review memory verses, finish up Alan Gomes' book, Unmasking the Cults (if you haven't already), and wrap up your report (if you haven't already)
Friday - Enjoy the day off!

DC 401 - Week 6 - Cults of Christianity (Part 2)

We continue studying cults of Christianity this week. We heard reports on Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and the "Word of Faith" movement, and we'll hear about Scientology, Christian Science, and Seventh Day Adventists next time we meet. The workload is fairly light through this portion of DC, but here's how this week might break down:

Monday - Read 1 Kings 1-16 and comment
Tuesday - Read Psalms 67-68 and comment, and also read the article by Steve Bright entitled, "What Are We Teaching about How to Handle Scripture Correctly?"
Wednesday - Memorize 1 John 4:1-2 - Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the Spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God - and review previous memory verses, such as Galatians 1:8, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, and 2 Timothy 2:15
Thursday - Review memory verses and read chapters 4-6 of Alan Gomes' Unmasking the Cults
Friday - Review memory verses and work on your cult or world religion report

DC 401 - Week 5 - Cults of Christianity (Part 1)

We begin a three week series on cults and world religions. The workload is a little lighter these three weeks, in order that everyone may emphasize a particular cult or world religion of choice to study and give a brief report. But here's how it might break down:

Monday - Read 2 Samuel 13-24 and comment
Tuesday - Read Psalms 3, 18, 30, and 63, and comment
Wednesday - Memorize Galatians 1:8 - "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned" - and review previous memory verses, including Matthew 28:19-20, 2 Corinthians 5:21, and Galatians 5:16
Thursday - Read chapters 1-3 (2 is optional) of Alan Gomes' book, Unmasking the Cults, and review memory verses
Friday - Work on your particular report and review memory verses - over the course of these three weeks, we'll look specifically at Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, the "Word of Faith" movement, Christian Science, Scientology, 7th Day Adventists, Islam, Rastafarianism, and more
